Best of Friends

It's cute to see Dane and Bailey starting to interact nicely with each other. It's much better than watching Bailey scamper past Dane, nudging him off balance, and sometimes to the ground. Or watching Dane drag Bailey's belongings around the room and permanently relocating them (Poor Bailey! He went from King of the household to lowly pawn and his two areas in the house - his rug and food bowl - are constantly being invaded by the new King.)

Here's a sweet video of Dane petting Bailey and then letting him know he it's time to eat.

You might think it's odd that Bailey has to wait for us to clap in order to eat, but with a hunting dog, we find this to be a valuable opportunity for discipline that we can practice year round, even beyond hunting season. Plus, the whole feeding process became more enjoyable once we didn't have to elbow our way around an impatient, slobbery dog snout to reach the dog bowl. So, don't go call the Humane Society on us -- he's very well loved, and well treated. :)

Mommy's new favorite book!

I just love the books written by Sandra Boynton and Snuggle Puppy is definitely my new favorite. This book just melts my heart! I've been singing it pretty much nonstop since I bought it for Dane a few days ago. Click on the link below and you'll see what I mean. (While I wrote this post, I've listened to it probably 20 times...I'm so cheesy! 21 now!) How could you not love it? :)

Ready for the 30 degree weather!

This is what it takes to go for a walk outside in Alaska these days! What you can't see are the two pairs of socks on his hands (we managed to lose one of his mittens!) He also has a pair of his own socks on and then a pair of mine that go up to his knees. He looks so uncomfortable to me, but he just loves being outside! He giggles and talks on our entire walk.

Dane's world just got a little bit smaller

Well, we finally had a Hubert Family Day around here and you know who suffered? Dane! Here's a video clip....



His world just got a little bit smaller and ours a little bit easier. :) Oh, the joy of not having to clean up everything he takes out of the cupboards.

San Jose

Dan went to San Jose last week for business. While he was there he was able to enjoy an abundance of sunshine and had the opportunity to try out his new camera with some great sights. These pictures were taken at Santa Clara University, Stanford and the Winchester House.
















This one below, obviously not from Dan's collection, is a great point of reference because it shows the devastation of Memorial Church after the 1906 Earthquake. Dan took the above picture of Memorial Church at Stanford.

Trick or Treat!

Dane really should have gotten more treats for this trick, but all he got was another black eye! (The picture doesn't do it justice, but he's got a shiner on his left eye for sure.) I walked to our front door to light our jack 'o lantern. Dane saw me depart and bolted for the door. Just about the time I stepped through the door Dane flew around the corner, guns blazing, negotiating a very tight turn in socked feet. Newton's first law of motion (objects in motion tend to remain in motion) prevented the sharp turn Dane intended. Baby meets bench, baby loses, baby acquires black eye! Here's the funny part - his previous black eye (in the same exact spot) was just starting to fade away! The previous black eye came about after an incident with a dining room chair.

More Halloween Antics....


Erik, Lindsi and Payton came over to carve pumpkins earlier this week. After Dan took out the pumpkin guts he invited Dane to stick his hand inside. As his tiny hand caustiously entered, the pumpkin suddenly came alive and RRRAAARRRGHHH came from Daddy's mouth. Dane's face went white and seconds after a shriek came from his mouth. As you can see in the above picture, Dane would then have nothing to do with the pumpkin.





So Dan had some work to do! We couldn't have a little boy
that was frightened of pumpkins for the rest of his life. Dan finally lured Dane in by putting his favorite treat - yogurt melts - inside. Oh what magic food can have on little Dane. Yogurt melts are how we get through the grocery store without a fuss. :)
