He couldn't scare us away!

We saw this friendly black bear just as we were pulling into the parking lot of Brotherhood Trail. Thankfully, we were still in the car (which was why I was so brave as to video him!) Dane was a little hesitant about going on the hike at first, but after a few words of encouragement he jumped on his bike and did it. I'm so proud of this little guy - he rode his bike for 4 miles and didn't complain at all. What a champ.

Jaeger did great too.
He's usually not a big fan of the stroller.

What a view!

A wonderful perk!

Look where we got to go the other night!

We haven't taken advantage of Daddy's flying perks in a long time so with all of this beautiful weather we decided to take the plane to have a picnic dinner at the Young Lake Cabin.

Here's Dane ready to go.
The boys LOVED flying with Daddy! They were both glued to the window. :)

Checking for bears!

Helping Daddy start the fire. The highlight for Dane was, of course, putting out the fire. He ran to the little creek over and over again to fill his bucket and then dump it on the smoldering fire. (Sadly, I had already put my camera back in the plane. It was classic to watch Firefighter Nigel in action. Especially with Firefighter Binglebonnet chasing after him.)

Success.

Thanks to Daddy's labor we were able to indulge in this wonderful classic.

Jaeger wasn't so sure about the whole S'more thing. He dumped the graham cracker and marshmellow immediately and went straight for the good stuff!

And then wasn't so sure about his choice.

Another bite and he'd realized he'd hit the jackpot. :)

Alaska's beauty never ceases to amaze me.
I feel so blessed to be able to raise our boys here.

Ever wonder what we do when Dane is at preschool?

Here's a clue...

Do you think Firefighter Nigel would be upset if he knew?

Summer's Here!

It's been absolutely gorgeous here in Juneau lately. The kind of gorgeous that means drop everything and get outside regardless of those dishes in the sink or the 10 loads of laundry you have piled up on top of the washer. And that's exactly what we've been doing!

Here are a few photos showing what we've been up to.

Playing at Sandy Beach

Walking on Treadwell Mine Historic Trail
Dane & Jaeger running to greet Daddy.

And this is why our walks aren't much of an actual walk these days.

Play Dates

Tree Climbing (Do you like my sweet daredevil? Only about a foot off the ground!)

Picnics
Daddy got off early and surprised us with this lovely treat!

Jaeger graduated to the big boy swing!

Wagon Fun.
And all this outside play means lots of time splashing in the tub.

Monday Madness!

Monday's are always pretty fun at our house.
First there's this...

And then there's THIS...

Monday's are maintence day at our local fire station and for Dane it's like going to Disneyland. We show up around 8am and watch the show. The fire fighters pull out all the fire engines and get to work checking all the equipment. The stabilizers go down, the chainsaws start up, the aerial ladder is raised, the sirens are blasting....it's a true field day for this future fire fighter!
The Hubert family is there so often that the chief said, "we are more regular than some of his firefighters!" Last week was especially awesome as Firefighter Paul let Dane on the aerial platform and Dane got to raise the ladder up and down.

And here's our new favorite firefighter song! (Thanks Unk Tim for introducing this song to us.)
*The funny thing is that we LOVE the Gwyneth Paltrow version from Glee and listen to it nearly everyday. But this one is definitely better!

At peace

As I gear up for the last day of school today, I'm thinking back to all the tragedies that have taken place this school year. Many dear friends have lost loved ones this year and to say the least, it's been a tough year.
As summer begins I wanted to take time to reflect on my beautiful big brother. He was such a sweet and loving soul. At times it's confusing and hard to understand, but I'm finding peace with it all as I know that he has finally found peace for himself. I will miss so much about him, but above all his sweet face and laughter will remain in my heart forever.

I love you Little Lee!

Funny Friday

A recent conversation between Dane and Daddy.

Dane: "There's a bad guy in the living room."
Daddy: "How do you know there's a bad guy in the living room?"
Dane: "It's Mommy, she's not listening to me. "

I guess I better start being a better listener, so I can become a good guy! ;)
